rokataa hai Gham-e-izhaar sey pindaar mujhey
merey ashkon sey chhupaa ley merey ruKhsaar mujhey

[izhaar = expression (of); pindaar = pride]
[ruKhsaar = cheeks]

dekh ay dasht-e-junuuN bhed na khulney paaye
DhuuNDney aaye hain ghar kay dar-o-diivaar mujhey

[dasht-e-junuuN = jungle of madness; bhed = secret]

sii diye honT usii shaaKh kii majabuurii ney
jis kii qurbat ney kiyaa mehram-e-israar mujhey

[qurbat = nearness; mehram-e-israar = acquainted with secrets]

merii aaNkhon kii taraf dekh rahey hain anjum
jaisey pehchaan ga_ii ho shab-e-be'daar mujhey

[anjum = stars; shab-e-bedaar = wakeful night]

jins-e-viiraanii-e-sehraa merii dukaan men hai
kayaa khariidey gaa terey shehar kaa baazaar mujhey

[jins-e-viiraanii-e-sehraa = loneliness of the wilderness]

jaras-e-gul ney ka_ii baar bulaayaa lekin
ley ga_ii raah sey zanjiir kii jhankaar mujhey

[jaras -e-gul = sound of flowers]

naavak-e-zulm uThaa dashnaa-e-andoh sambhaal
lutf kay Khanjar-e-benaam sey mat maar mujhey

[naavak-e-zulm = arrow of tyranny; dashnaa-e-andoh = dagger of sorrow]

saarii duniyaa men ghanii raat kaa sannaaTaa thaa
sehan-e-zindaaN men miley subah kay aasaar mujhey

[sannaaTaa = silence; sehan-e-zindaaN = prison courtyard]
[aasaar = signs]
